Job overview
You will be responsible for implementation of effective quality neonatal care to infants requiring Transitional Care and Special Care, under the supervision of the registered nurse, following a holistic family centred model of practice
The post holder will carry out assigned tasks involving direct care in support of a Registered Nurse to ensure care of babies and children within the unit to promote their health and development and contribute to the effective and efficient day to day running of the unit. To successfully complete nursery nurse competencies to gain neonatal specific knowledge and skills.
You will work between Transitional Care which is based on Orchard Ward and Meadowbank SCBU .
Main duties of the job
In this job role you will be following a programme of training and assessment take responsibility for individual patient care under the supervision of a trained nurse as allocated by the nurse in charge. You will undertake procedures/ activities for babies and families requiring Transitional Care and/or special care. As a nursery nurse you will be responsible for ensuing that quality neonatal care is provided to infants requiring Transitional Care and Special Care, which will be supervised by a registered nurse, ensuring a holistic family centred model of practice is used. The post holder is required to carry out allocated tasks with the support of a Registered Nurse to ensure the care of infants encourages their health and growth and to support the unit operates smoothly and successfully. The post holder will also be required to successfully complete training to support their neonatal knowledge and skills.

- Implement & evaluate the agreed plan of care, review and update plan accordingly
- Demonstrate an understanding of, assess, evaluate care in relation to infant hygiene, nutritional care, thermoregulatory care, monitoring and undertake associated practical aspects within sphere of responsibility
- Carry out daily checks and cleaning of specialised equipment used for infant feeding. To prepare babies/children’s feeds accurately and monitor and record their feeding This includes gastric tube feeding
- Support and assist mothers in breast-feeding/expressing
- Maintain cleanliness of the milk kitchen and milk expressing equipment. Check temperatures and cleanliness milk fridges and freezer
