Job overview

LOCUM CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC GENERAL SURGERY - 1 post (10 PA’s)

Applications are invited for the above full-time NHS locum post, at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with an aim to being a substantive post in the near future.

We are a friendly, dynamic, innovative and future focussed department. We are seeking like-minded individuals that will complement and enhance our existing team.

This is an exciting time to be joining BHFT which was formed in April 2020 with the merger of Bedford Hospital and the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital. Our integration strategy is well developed and seeks to provide the best experience for staff and the patients we care for.

Main duties of the job

The Trust is expanding our paediatric general surgery service across Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust working collaboratively with our current Paediatric General Surgeon, Mr Roy Gurprashad.

This is a newly created post to support the expansion of Paediatric Surgery within the Trust as per our strategic direction. At present we have one general paediatric surgeon based at Luton and Dunstable Hospital. Patients at Bedford are transferred/referred to major paediatric hubs including Addenbrookes and GOSH. Therefore, elective activity across both sites is required for this role and will be structured within an agreed job plan with the successful candidate

The successful applicant will join our current team of 9 Upper GI consultants with varying specialist interests including Bariatric, Upper GI, Pancreatobiliary and Paediatric surgery.

This role does not currently include an on-call expectation.

Working for our organisation

You will be joining a friendly, high performing Trust committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of staff. As one of the largest NHS Trusts in our region you will have access to a programme of high quality training and development to help you grow your career. The Trust continues to be committed to delivering the best patient care using the best clinical knowledge and technology.

Our Values

We not only recruit based on qualifications and experience - we recruit individuals who demonstrate the behaviours which underpin our Trusts core values. We achieve this by using values based recruitment. We are dedicated to making our recruitment practices as inclusive as possible for everyone, we are committed to promoting equality and diversity, and creating a culture that values differences.

Please note that vacancies may close prior to the advertised closing date when sufficient number of applications have been received. All new staff will be subject to a probationary period covering first 6 months in post. Travel between hospital sites may be required. Please review all documents attached to ensure you familiarize yourself with all requirements of the job.
