Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic interventional radiologist with a progressive attitude, to support the local GI, GU and hepatobiliary services and the vascular interventional radiology services, as part of the Bedfordshire Milton Keynes (BMK) Vascular Unit

Maintain top clinical standards, provide high-quality imaging/Interventional Radiology, share patient management, cover general radiology/on-call, support staff training, engage in governance, audits, and CPD.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Maintain top clinical standards, provide high-quality imaging/Interventional Radiology, share patient management, cover general radiology/on-call, support staff training, engage in governance, audits, and CPD.

·                     Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital.

 

·                     To deliver a high-quality imaging service with a focus on Interventional Radiology,

 

·                     To share, with colleagues in the Imaging Department, the management of all patients referred to the Trust.

 

·                     To share in the general radiology work of the department including currently a 1 in 18 on call rota, moving to a 7-day Interventional on-call in the near future.

 ·                     To support radiographers and sonographer staff in the department and be involved in the teaching and training of specialist registrars grade, junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students.

 

·                     To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

 

·                     To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).

 

Person specification

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students
Desirable criteria
  • Has attended Teaching the Teachers or similar course

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Medical Degree
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification, FRCR or equivalent
  • MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
Desirable criteria
  • MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration (GMC Licence to Practice is mandatory before employment commences)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register
  • CCT (or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview)
  • CESR - portfolio pathway (must be on Specialist Register at time of applying)

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent all round experience of DGH work
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Interventional Radiology
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision.

Clinical Effectiveness

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of clinical governance and ability to demonstrate ongoing CPD
  • Experience of guideline appraisal
  • Participation in relevant local audits
  • Ability to interpret and apply clinical research
Desirable criteria
  • Participation in relevant national audits

Personal Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to co-operate in a democratic team environment
  • Flexible attitude, team player with good management skills
  • Leadership Skills

Clinical Governance

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance.

Personal Circumstances

Essential criteria
  • Residence within 10 miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital for purposes of on-call emergencies.
  • Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory Occupational Health clearance
  • Satisfactory DBS clearance
