Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (Bracknell Dialysis Unit)

Working Hours: Monday to Saturday with variable shift of 8 hours/shift (inclusive 30 minute break).

PLEASE NOTE: This post is based at Bracknell Dialysis Unit, Bracknell Healthspace, Brants Bridge, Bracknell, RG12 9RT - and attracts a Fringe payment of 5% of gross basic salary.

As a Healthcare Assistant you will be expected to perform renal-specific competences relating to haemodialysis skills. You will be trained in these abilities. You will be required to have some renal specialised knowledge to be able to provide excellent care to the haemodialysis patients. The HCA haemodialysis skills clinical competencies will thus also need to be fulfilled.

Following the training, you will be expected to perform these renal specific skills duties among others as an Healthcare Assistant assigned on the Acute Dialysis Team or in the Chronic Haemodialysis Units.

Main duties of the job

Duties include:

  • Preparation of equipment for haemodialysis.
  • Pre & post HD observations- blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, glucose monitoring.
  • Pre & post HD weighing of patients including calculation of wheelchair weight.
  • Assisting patients with manual handling- transfer using hoist/ Banana board or SARA Steady.
  • Using of therapy monitor.
  • Lining & priming of HD machines.
  • Disconnecting of patients from HD (patients with fistula as vascular access).
  • Cleaning/ Disinfecting of HD machines.
  • Appropriate segregation & disposal of waste.
  • HD materials stocking levels and ordering.
  • To use online Transport booking system (SCAS).
  • Efficient in using renal IT system- CV5.
  • To escalate concerns when observed in a timely and appropriate manner to the registered nurse.
