Histopathology

The appointee will take part in the general diagnostic surgical pathology rota or, depending on specialist experience, may focus on a specific area that fits better with the rest of the team. There will be a nominal responsibility for reporting urgent cases one day a week. The appointee will be expected to supervise and report with our junior medical staff on equitable basis with the rest of the consultant medical team.

Our current working practice within the department is for all of the consultant pathologists to undertake a proportion of the reporting each day (as allocated by the consultant with nominal responsibility for that day’s reporting).

Attendance at appropriate cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings as the lead or deputy pathologist will be required. Participation in appropriate external quality assurance (EQA) schemes is expected, as is participation in relevant clinical audits.

 Cytopathology

The appointee will have an opportunity to report (if they wish) non-gynecological cytology workload in conjunction with the other 3 Consultants who undertake cytology.

The appointee will supervise the non-Gynae cytology work reported by the registrars on equitable basis.
