Job overview

The successful candidate will work as an autonomous practitioner, will lead and be accountable for the overall nursing performance of the directorate and the achievement of all local, organisational and national targets and standards, working within the Trust’s governance framework and the current regulatory & policy requirements.

You will provide professional, effective and engaging leadership to nursing and other direct care staff within the directorate. Work as a visible, accessible and authritative presence to whom patients and families can turn to for advice, support and assistance. 

The post holder will take a lead role in optimising performance of pathways, ensuring key deliverables are met.

The post holder has accountability for the quality of nursing care delivered and the patients experience whilst in the directorate.

Essential criteria
  • Significant recent and relevant experience as a senior nurse working at band 7 or above in acute care
  • Experience of managing people and teams, including experience of managing staff capability, conduct and sickness.

education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration (registered nurse –Adult branch)
  • Evidence of leadership and management development.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Advanced communication skills with the ability to network and build relationships at all levels, including influencing and negotiation skills. Able to communicate difficult, complex and contentious information to a variety of audiences in a way that is clear, comprehensive and easy to understand for each audience.
