Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and enthusiastic consultant team who believe in leading from the frontline, with the aim of providing outstanding care to our community and investing in the well-being and development of our people.
The successful post holder will work as the Antenatal Lead for services and have a special interest in PNMH. Special interest in PNMH is essential for this post which will involve care for perinatal patients with moderate to severe mental health disorders in collaboration with multi-agency partnerships. The post holder will have interest and relevant experience in complex mental health disorders in pregnancy and provide obstetric expertise towards diagnostics, birth planning and medication review.
There will also be an opportunity to continue developing MAU and further develop specialist antenatal services according to any other special interest. The post holder is expected to hold a broad range of generic skills in Obstetrics and work closely with the Labour Ward and Governance Leads. The post holder will contribute to the resident on-call rota overnight and fully participate in the obstetric out of hours rota. Additional skills and experience in risk management and an interest in research and would also be desirable.

Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities:
· Provide acute and elective Obstetric services including inpatient and outpatient care at RBFT and other bespoke sites
· Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times
· Comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor at all times
Management and Leadership Responsibilities:
· Antenatal Lead for services with special interest in PNMH. As antenatal lead, the post holder will support other specialist clinics and continue working collaboratively with midwifery leads and develop the MAU service
· Participation and involvement in monthly meetings including governance and other departmental business
· Active participation in departmental teaching such as PROMPT, as well as teaching medical students, PA students etc and resident doctors
A particular interest in research with a view to becoming principle investigator in studies would be advantageous. There are ample opportunities for research with a wealth of clinical material associated with the large population, links with Reading University and close proximity to Oxford.

We are looking to recruit consultant colleagues with exceptional clinical skills to complement our service who can work as team players, who can lead, and who possess the drive and ambition to help us achieve our goals.
We provide maternity services for around 4800 women each year and have a good track record for delivering high quality safe care. We have a ‘learning focussed’ culture, and a well-established, clinically led multidisciplinary senior leadership team. In addition to routine antenatal care provided by our community midwifery team, we offer a range of specialist antenatal services supported by specialist midwives, obstetricians and medical specialists.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is a full-time post with a minimum of 10 PAs. This job includes resident obstetrics overnight and non-resident obstetric working out of hours. A final job plan will be agreed upon appointment, ensuring both individual and Trust / departmental objectives align. The appointee will have a varied timetable of delivery suite, elective caesarean sections, antenatal clinics and antenatal ward round including MAU cover as well as dedicated SPA time.
The balance between Direct Clinical Care and Supporting Professional Activities will be agreed with the post holder in the final job plan. The SPA allocation is 1.5 for personal CME, audit and revalidation requirements including departmental meetings. Additional PAs (APAs) may be allocated for specific agreed objectives for the trust subject to the agreement of the Clinical Director.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the GMC
- Relevant CCT
- MRCOG (UK) or equivalent
Clinical Experience, Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Statement on Special interest in PNMH or SITM in PNHM
- ATSM/SITM or equivalent in Antenatal Care/Pregnancy Care/Maternal Medicine
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in O&G
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Evidence of competence in management of obstetric and gynaecological emergencies and in-patients through continuous work-based assessments, portfolio evidence, including logbook documentation if applicable
- Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate
- Demonstrate current ALS certification or equivalent
- Demonstrates ability in managing common acute and chronic conditions, including emergencies
- Certification in PROMPT
Audit Management and IT
Essential criteria
- Ability to work within clinical governance guidelines
- Undertake audits and present data as required
- Good IT skills, use of patient and hospital database
