Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist in Acute Stroke Unit
Part Time 22.5 hours per week.
**This is a fixed-term/secondment opportunity for 12 months (to October 2027) to cover maternity leave.**
We have an exciting opportunity for a clinical specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Occupational Therapy Department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
This post will be based on the Acute Stroke Unit and the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
You will be a versatile and enthusiastic OT, clinically expert in the management of acute stroke patients. We are a friendly, very supportive and proactive multidisciplinary team with fantastic links with our community and system partners.

Main duties of the job
To be an Occupational Therapist clinical expert in the management of stroke patients for the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT).
To be responsible for the operational management and clinical leadership of the Acute Stroke Unit Occupational Therapy team, in conjunction with the Neurology OT Team Lead and Professional Lead.
To use expert occupational therapy knowledge and advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advice to the Acute Stroke Unit Occupational Therapy team and other healthcare staff, and to manage own caseload of patients with highly complex conditions, as an autonomous practitioner.
To ensure a high quality and effective Occupational Therapy service to the Acute Stroke Unit.
To be a member of the Occupational Therapy Department Management team, contributing to planning and policy development in the inter-professional team and department.
To deputise for the Neurology OT Team Lead as required.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial specialist experience at a senior level
- Extensive post-graduate experience within the NHS
- Post-graduate training/qualification in the management of stroke and neurology patients
- Experience of teaching and presenting to other staff
- Experience of supervising and developing other staff and students
Desirable criteria
- MSc or equivalent training/experience in related area
- Knowledge of NHS structure
- Previous experience of a range of healthcare settings
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of current issues and policy relating to field of practice
- Registered OT with HCPC
- Advanced knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches to the management of acute stroke patients, including advanced clinical reasoning & treatment skills
Desirable criteria
- Attendance at specialist courses relating to OT within the field of stroke/neurology
- Completion of relevant QI projects
- Evidence of CPD
