Band 8A Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Leader
The Berkshire Cancer Centre (BCC) is looking for an experienced and dynamic leader to join our team as the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Team Leader. In this pivotal role, you will co-lead the development of a specialist cancer care service, ensuring a positive and lasting impact on the experience of patients and carers throughout the Trust.
As the CNS Team Leader, you will provide expert leadership to the Site-Specific Cancer CNS Teams, guiding them in delivering high-quality specialist nursing care, advice, and psychosocial support to those with cancer. You will also act as an expert practitioner in cancer care, making critical decisions and exercising professional autonomy to meet the complex needs of patients.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about oncology care and ready to take on a leadership role in shaping cancer services. You will also be a key resource for healthcare professionals across the Trust, offering specialist expertise on oncology-related issues.

Main duties of the job
- To improve standards of specialist care by facilitating the development of practice and strengthening leadership to ensure that patients with cancer and their families/carers have a quality experience.
- To oversee and support specialist nurses within the team in the development and implementation of a consistent and effective specialist service and to improve outcomes in cancer care across the Trust.
- To act as a clinical expert in cancer care providing expert advice at clinical and strategic level.
- To maintain clinical activity in agreement with the Matron, ensuring clinical credibility is maintained.

Qualifications/Experience
Essential criteria
- Degree in health related subject
- Post registration qualification in Oncology/Haematology nursing
- Recent clinical experience at band 7 within specialty
- Evidence of development at master’s level
- Registered Nurse
- Extensive knowledge on the national cancer plan, cancer targets and local delivery plans for the provision of cancer care
Desirable criteria
- Advanced Communication skills
- Masters in specialist area or able to demonstrate competence at equivalent level
- Post graduate diploma in education
- Record of publications and presentations at national and local conferences
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience of Leadership and Management
- Demonstrates a desire to explore new ways of delivering services
Desirable criteria
- Experience of successful Change Management
- Research experience and dissemination
