Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist - Sexual Health Care
**This is a fixed-term/secondment opportunity for 12 months to cover maternity leave.**
The post holder will work as part of the Florey Clinic team, delivering high-quality contraception and sexual health care in line with best practice and service standards. You will bring advanced clinical skills and a strong commitment to improving patient experience and outcomes across the department.
The role involves promoting safe, effective contraception and sexual health provision that meets the diverse needs of our service users within the Trust and the wider community. The post holder will act as an expert practitioner and a key clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team, maintaining a visible presence in the clinical area and modelling exemplary practice.
You will support the Lead Nurse and Clinic Sister in coordinating the team and ensuring the delivery of evidence‑based, high‑quality nursing care. The post holder will also provide cover for the Clinic Sister when required, including line management responsibilities for both qualified and unqualified junior nursing staff.
Inspiring excellence, the post holder will act as a supervisor and mentor to colleagues and students, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. You will champion staff development, well-being, and continuous improvement through education, training, and appraisal, enabling all members of the team to reach their full potential.
Main duties of the job
- Oversee the effective day‑to‑day management of the Sexual Health Information Systems, including the development and maintenance of operational policies and procedures, system audits, and liaison with third‑party suppliers.
- Lead on the design and implementation of new clinical pathways to support safe, efficient, and patient‑centred care.
- Provide specialist, interdisciplinary education and training to colleagues and students, supporting the development of skills and knowledge across the service.
- Contribute to strategic planning and service development at both local and national levels, ensuring the service remains aligned with best practice and emerging priorities.
- Participate in, facilitate, or undertake research within the specialist field to support evidence‑based practice and continuous improvement.
- Lead or support the implementation, monitoring, and delivery of agreed Key Performance Indicators, national standards, and statutory targets.
- Work in partnership with the electronic patient record supplier (IDOX – Lilie) to ensure the effective operation, maintenance, and development of the systems.
- Balance clinical and administrative responsibilities throughout the working week, including participation in weekend shifts and satellite service cover as required.
- Deputise for the Lead Nurse when necessary, supporting leadership, coordination, and operational oversight of the nursing team.

Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Contraceptive and reproductive sexual health qualification
- Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level/able to demonstrate evidence that is working at degree level/commenced degree pathway
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant and sustained post-registration experience
- Significant recent post registration clinical experience in a Contraception and Sexual Health service at Band 6 or above
- Recent experience safeguarding sexually active teenagers and those at risk of exploitation
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members
- Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise
- Demonstrates excellent team working
