Job overview

We are looking for a Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team in the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit. The successful candidate will be involved in the maintenance of the cleanroom suite, aseptic manipulations and supervision of preparation for chemotherapy patients at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and satellite sites.  Responsible for the supply of outsourced ready to use chemotherapy and other tasks associated with the provision of Pharmacy Cancer Services.

We also welcome applications from Registered Pharmacy Technicians who have experience of working in an Aseptic Unit and would be interested in a Band 4 to 5 Progressive Post.

 

Main duties of the job

To be the successful candidate for the Aseptic Services Unit Senior Pharmacy Technician you will be a highly motivated individual who is keen to join our Cancer Services team of Pharmacists, Technicians and Assistants.  You will be able to demonstrate a significant amount of post-qualification experience of working in an Aseptic Services Unit, preferably in the preparation of chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies, and will be prepared to work alongside our existing post-holders to supervise the running of the cleanroom suite. 

Experience of pre- and in-process checking is desirable.  You will have good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, be enthusiastic to develop yourself and the team, and must be able to work accurately under pressure.

You will also have proven team working abilities, be able to manage your own time effectively and demonstrate a commitment to CPD.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To participate in the provision of a safe, efficient and cost effective Aseptic Preparation Service for the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust as part of a multidisciplinary team.

To be responsible for the daily activities within the clean room.   

To assist in the management of the service as necessary.

Essential criteria
  • Up-to-date experience of working with isolator technology and aseptic preparation of chemotherapy products.
  • Methodical approach to work with accurate & precise attention to detail
  • Able to assist in the training of staff
  • Fluent in oral and written English with good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of GCP, GMP, QA and all regulations and legislation relevant to Aseptics
Desirable criteria
  • Procedure/policy writing

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 Pharmacy services or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or SCOTVEC or equivalent and professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
