We are recruiting a Band 3 Radiotherapy Bookings Coordinator, here at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT).

Radiotherapy Bookings Coordinators are integral members of the radiotherapy team, and support the multidisciplinary efforts needed to deliver effective radiotherapy treatment.
This is a demanding role that combines clerical, admin and patient support duties, with an essential requirement of proficient IT and computer literacy skills.
We are looking for a motivated, caring and resilient individual, preferably with experience in a health & social care setting, with a passion for delivering excellent patient care.
The post holder will be required to work as part of a team as well as being able to use initiative and prioritise their own work.

Main duties of the job
To coordinate the patient pathway between a number of departments/specialties and external Trusts to avoid cancer wait breaches.
To act as the link between the patients, oncology wards, consultants, planning department, chemotherapy outpatients, treatment machines and medical records in coordinating the treatment pathway for each patient referred for radiotherapy.
To prioritize and allocate appropriate appointment slots for each stage of the treatment process, liaising with relevant staff as necessary.
To proficiently and efficiently utilise a variety of electronic systems, with competent IT skills and knowledge.
To maintain awareness of service delivery developments and contribute to the implementation of change within the service, and participate and identify areas requiring improvement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Radiotherapy Bookings Coordinators are critical members of the radiotherapy team supporting the multidisciplinary work that is needed to deliver radiotherapy treatment. This is a demanding role that combines clerical, admin and patient support duties, with an essential requirement of proficient computer skills. We are looking for a motivated, caring and resilient individual, preferably with experience in a health & social care setting that is passionate about delivering excellent patient care. You will be required to work as part of a team as well as being able to use your initiative and prioritise your own work.
The radiotherapy department treats 100+ patients a day and we are seeking candidates who can respond quickly to the service needs, demonstrating a professional and flexible approach to their work and at times be able to work flexibly. Due to the nature of the service, you may need to deal with emotional and distressed patients, although this does not happen very often.
The Department is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 5.00pm and the post holder will be required to work during shift patterns if required by the needs of the service.
Evidence of proficient IT skills for this role is essential due to the admin work associated with coordinating and booking patients for their radiotherapy appointments.
A highly professional telephone manner is also essential as the team receives a lot of queries throughout the day.
An understanding of radiotherapy treatment, national cancer targets, and hospital based computer systems would be an advantage. Training will be provided to enable the successful applicant to gather an understanding of the radiotherapy pathway and to ensure that they are fully supported into their new role.

- General Standard of Education at grade 4 or above in 3 core subjects
- Understanding of Medical Terminology
Experience

- Previous experience in a healthcare setting
- Proven experience of working without close supervision
- Experience of communicating with patients, face to face, by telephone and in writing
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of cancer waiting times
