Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an assistant psychologist to join the Clinical Health Psychology team based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. The post is a 12-month fixed term position and will be split across the Infected Blood Psychological Service (IBPS) (0.5wte) and the Burns Service (0.2wte).
The post in IBPS offers a unique opportunity to be part of developing a regional service that will offer psychological support service for those infected and affected by contaminated blood products. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and work in conjunction with other professionals.
Within the Burns service the postholder will support the service development of a regional burns psychological service. This will include opportunities across both inpatient and outpatient working.
There will also be opportunities for shadowing clinical experiences across both services.
The post holder will be warmly welcomed into a supportive team of psychologists who work within a variety of medical specialities. These include Haematology, HIV, Stem Cell Transplant, Intestinal Failure and Heart and Lung Transplant.
The post holder will be working under the supervision of a clinical psychologist and will receive regular clinical supervision.
The post would suit somebody wishing to pursue a career in clinical psychology.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in a variety of defined tasks as outlined by the IBPS and Burns service lead psychologists. These tasks will encompass both clinical and non-clinical responsibilities, including but not limited to:
-
Supporting qualified psychologists with direct client interactions, including assessments and treatment.
-
Supporting qualified psychologists with providing consultation and supervision to other professionals.
-
Supporting outreach and engagement initiatives.
-
Fostering close collaborative working relations with relevant third-sector organisations.
-
Supporting qualified psychologists in governance, audit, research and clinical administrative activities, collecting, collating and analysing data, resource collection, writing and presenting reports and assisting in project development.
Tasks will be agreed and reviewed at appropriate intervals under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, but the post holder will be expected to take these tasks forward independently on a day-to-day basis.
