Job overview

This role is based at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Secretary to join our team within the ENT department . You will be required to work to a high standard, with accuracy, be able to demonstrate initiative in planning and prioritising your workload, to support the team whilst providing ad hoc cover for the Admissions arm of the department.

The successful candidate should have a proactive and friendly attitude and be able to demonstrate a degree of administrative and secretarial experience; being able to meet the duties of the role as identified in the job description. You must possess excellent organisational skills, be self-motivated and have experience in dealing with confidential information.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of secondary education including GCE/GCSE English or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Typing / word processing to RSA 11 or equivalent experience
  • Typing / Text processing OCR level 2 or equivalent experience
  • AMSPAR Certificate/equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge of medical terminology.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in liaising with members of the public.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Packages (e.g. powerpoint, word excel, access)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using hospital based IT systems and electronic patient records.
  • Experience with data entry, post requires entering data into multiple sites as well as cross checking to ensure data is correct
  • Audio typing. Excellent telephone manner.
  • Surgical secretarial -Ability to use an NHS Patient Administration System (PAS) -Digital dictation
  • Previous NHS experience.
