Job overview

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a motivated individual to join us as a Finance Apprentice within the Finance Department (Financial Management).

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic person to start their career within a specialised Women’s and Children’s Trust and to begin a journey which will provide an exciting and fulfilling career pathway.

This is a business orientated role and you will undertake a Finance Apprenticeship whilst working alongside clerical workers, registered professionals, medical staff and external stakeholders.  Finance apprentices play a vital role in the smooth running of the Trust.

We have a dedicated team who will support you in your apprenticeship programme. They will work closely with you and your manager to provide a comprehensive development plan detailing your objectives and workplace goals.

You will be employed on a 18 month fixed term training contract of 37.5 hours per week.  You will be given time during your working hours for study towards the apprenticeship to attend training sessions on the underpinning knowledge of procedures and policies that impact on the role.  Your study will be towards an Accounting qualification.

You will also be entitled to a generous Annual Leave of 27 days in addition to 8 days public holidays per year.  As an NHS employee you will be eligible to many discounts offered my online and high street retailers.

Main duties of the job

Finance Apprentices are expected to be friendly, caring and sensitive with the confidence to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, including other Finance colleagues, external contacts, Divisional Management and healthcare professional colleagues.  A mature and professional outlook is essential.

Everyone at BWC has a responsibility to ensure a high standard of care is delivered to our women, children and families. A kind, caring and professional attitude is required whilst considering dignity, privacy, cultural and religious needs are maintained.

We are looking for a candidate who is ambitious, brave and compassionate and can demonstrate a high level of commitment to the Apprenticeship programme.   Apprentices who don’t already have maths and English GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) will be required to complete these subjects as part of the apprenticeship programme. Ideally, you will have an interest in progressing in a career within Financial Management, or wider Finance/Accountancy.
