We are excited to offer an outstanding opportunity to join our dynamic and high-performing Gynaecology Assessment Unit (GAU). Our unit provides expert care to patients experiencing early pregnancy complications and acute gynaecological concerns.
We are currently seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Band 2 Health Care Support Worker to join our team. In this rewarding role, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care to women during some of their most vulnerable moments.
Main duties of the job
· Deliver high standards of patient care, ensuring dignity, compassion, and respect at all times.
· Support and assist members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide safe, effective, and patient- centred care.
· Undertake delegated clinical tasks, including recording vital signs, performing urinalysis and carrying out phlebotomy following appropriate training and competency assessment.
· Accurately document patient information using the hospital’s electronic patient record system.
· Maintain infection prevention and control standards by assisting with daily cleaning, preparation, and safe use of clinical equipment.
· Support service delivery through monitoring and replenishing stock levels to ensure clinical areas remain well-resourced.
· Carry out administrative and clerical duties as required to support the smooth running of the unit.
· Comply with all hospital policies, procedures, and guidelines, upholding the values of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

Essential criteria
- Math’s and English Language GCSE A-C/9-4 or Level 2 functional skills/Key skills in Numeracy and literacy
- Cavendish Care Certificate
KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Good communication skills
- Willing to undertake additional training as required
- Able to demonstrate sensitive and empathetic approach to patients in treatment
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting
ANALYTICAL AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Be able to escalate problems when required and report back to supervising registered practitioner
- Ability to analyse working environment eg stock levels and to resolve or escalate as appropriate.
- Ability to assess behaviors of service users and escalate to supervisory staff as needed
