Job overview
This post represents an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic clinical team in Paediatric Cardiology contributing to the on-going development of clinical services, supporting high quality patient care, managing patient flow, improving patient experience around pre-admission and discharge and working closely with medical and surgical colleagues in inpatient areas to support the management of cardiac patients.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
-
To support the medical and surgical teams to manage a caseload of specific speciality patients as determined by the consultant, exercising a high level of professional judgement and expertise when delivering care. This will include taking medical histories, undertaking physical examinations, undertaking other clinical practical tasks e.g. phlebotomy, cannulation.

Duties will include supporting the management of children with all forms of cardiac disease, the peri-operative care of children undergoing cardiac catheter, electrophysiology and cardiac surgical interventions.

To develop extensive specialist knowledge and experience in the speciality, acting as a resource to the clinical team and allied health professionals.

To work alongside the post graduate doctors on the team

To be integral to excellence in communication and working within the team
Professional

To work closely with the medical and surgical post graduate doctor team.

Work as a qualified Physician Associate within the Cardiac service under the supervision of a named Consultant.

To contribute to achieving and maintaining any targets related to patients under their care.

Apply advanced clinical knowledge in the assessment, investigation and management of patients

To contribute to the development of efficient pathways of care in accordance with current best practice and national guidelines.

If UK trained - Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Minimum of a BSc/BA undergraduate degree prior to undertaking PA training
- MSc/PgDip in Physician Associate Studies from a recognised Physician Associate training programme
- Registered with the General Medical Council
- Current and valid certification or recertification by the Physicians Assistant National Examination
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree
- Other qualifications related to child health
If US trained - Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current and valid certification with the National Commission on Certification for Physicians Assistants (NCCPA)
- Registration with the UK managed Voluntary Registry for Physician Assistants
Desirable criteria
- Membership of the UK Association of Physicians Assistants (UKAPA)
Knowledge and nature of experience
Essential criteria
- Cannulation and phlebotomy in adult patients
- Basic life support in children
Desirable criteria
- Cannulation and phlebotomy in children
- Advanced paediatric life support
