Diabetes Midwife (Band 6)

NHS AfC: Band 6

Job overview

Are you a Band 6 midwife seeking a rewarding and challenging role within a rapidly developing and challenging service?

The Diabetes Midwife Team is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 midwife with a genuine interest in diabetes to work within their multi-disciplinary team.

At Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital, we strive to be at the forefront of innovative midwifery care. We are a large, friendly tertiary centre providing care for over 8000 women a year. Proud to be dedicated to women’s healthcare, we are committed to offering choice for the women we provide care for each year. Our midwifery service strives hard to meet women’s individual needs and also offers choice in their place of birth, supporting Better Births and continuity of Carer, whether the choice be home birth, Birth Centre, or Delivery Suite. Join our supportive, friendly Trust and be part of our dynamic professional team providing excellent care for women and their families.

No formal diabetes qualifications are required for this position as the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills by working initially with the DSM’s and also within the MDT of diabetes specialists.

This is a full-time post (37.5 hours) job share may be considered.

Informal enquiries are welcome to Abigail Penberthy, Lead DSM on 07715045632.

Main duties of the job

This role will involve working alongside and supporting the Diabetes Specialist Midwives (DSM)  within the current busy diabetes service which delivers specialist diabetes input alongside midwifery care in multiple antenatal clinics and in patient settings.

In addition, the successful midwife will also be actively involved in supporting the DSM team to plan and arrange diabetes education for midwives and junior doctors, participate in clinical audit and develop diabetes care pathways and guidelines.
