An Exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, resourceful and inspiring RN/ RSCN/ODP/RM with evidence of continuing professional development, to undertake the role of a sister/ practitioner in Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) at Birmingham Women`s & Children’s NHS Trust.  We are a busy, friendly and innovative team. 

We are seeking a qualified nurse/midwife with a keen interest or previous experience of IPC.  You will be part of a dynamic team working across our Trust sites.  The team will mentor, support and teach you to ensure a wide variety of learning across microbiology and the prevention and control of infections. 

You will have excellent communication skills enabling you to support the nursing & medical teams, facilities, estates, as well as patients and their families.  These skills will ensure we are driving a high quality, safe service and ensuring our Trust is compliant with all local and national legislation and evidence-based practice. 

Main duties of the job

To work within the Infection Prevention and Control Team providing specialist nursing input in the identification, prevention, monitoring/surveillance, and control of infection within the Trust.  To monitor staff compliance with infection prevention and control policies initiating appropriate actions to enable all grades and disciplines of staff to prevent and control infection.  

Act as a role model always promoting best practice within infection prevention and control. 

Act as a specialist adviser and resource to all staff, clinical and non-clinical on issues relating to infection prevention and control.  

Maintain close liaison with the Infection Prevention and Control Lead Nurses and Microbiologists on matters relating to infection control. 

Work in conjunction with Ward Managers, Infection Prevention and Control Team, Clinical Co-Ordinator's, and Lead Nurses to minimize movement and isolation of patients with infection or infectious diseases and to ensure that beds are effectively utilized, particularly at times of winter pressures.  

Collaborate with other members of the Infection Prevention and Control team, clinical teams and other agencies in the identification, investigation and management of outbreaks seeking advice from those with expertise where necessary, reporting to the Infection Prevention and Control Team and the Trust Infection Prevention and Control Committee, as required.
