Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a substantive Obstetric Consultant with a specialist interest in Fetal Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious team at our Birmingham Women’s Hospital site which has 7,400 births per year. This is a newly established Consultant post and we are looking for someone who is Ambitious, Brave and Compassionate and with a commitment to continually improve our services, which have just been rated green by the CQC.

This job will consist of 10.75 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week as an annualised contract. The job plan includes on call duties as part of a 1 in 14 rota. The successful applicant will be based within the fetal medicine teams joining our established team of expert obstetricians with the potential to work alongside the current fetal intervention team in the future and assist development of future innovations in prenatal surgery.

The successful candidate will be expected to be aware of local policies and procedures and to comply with the Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions of the Trust. Where the Consultant manages employees of the Trust, they will be expected to observe the local employment and personnel policies and procedures.

Essential and Desirable

  • • Full GMC registration
  • • MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
  • • Relevant CCT or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
  • • Completion of Labour Ward ATSM
  • • Experience of supervising junior staff
  • • Prepared to live within 10 miles or 30 minutes of the hospital or remain resident whilst on call
