Job overview
This is a part time (0.2wte) substantive consultant post in the department of paediatric dermatology at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
This post will comprise 2 Programmed Activities per week; 1.5 PAs of Direct Clinical Care and 0.5 PAs for Supporting Professional Activities. There are currently no out of hours on call duties.
This job will involve general paediatric dermatology, specialist clinics including tertiary paediatric dermatology.
The post is only open to dermatologists. Applicants need to have completed CCT in dermatology/ or equivalent training
or be within 6 months of doing so. Applicants will be asked for evidence of additional experience in paediatric
dermatology. The post is open to people who wish to work flexibly.
Main duties of the job
This job will involve general and specialist tertiary paediatric dermatology, providing inpatient and outpatient services.
This post will comprise 2 Programmed Activities per week, 1.5 PAs of Direct Clinical Care and 0.5 PAs for Supporting Professional Activities, including CPD activities. General clinics have 8 follow up patients, or 4 new and 4 follow up patients.
On-call arrangements:
There are no acute on take duties for this post and there is currently no out of hours on call service for general dermatology. The appointee will join the existing consultants in providing on call support during the day. The resident doctors are first on call and the consultants support them. This will usually be 1 day of the week. Where appropriate there will be time off in lieu.
Clinical Governance:
The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Clinical Governance structure developed by the Trust to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care.
Teaching:
The post holder will be expected to play a role in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and the training of other relevant staff groups.
Research:
The post holder will be expected participate in current research within the department as needed.
Mentoring:
The Children’s Hospital provides mentoring for newly appointed consultants.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration
- MRCP or equivalent
- UK CCT in dermatology or equivalent qualification
- Higher Degree (MD, PhD, etc)

- Experience of paediatric dermatology
- Experience in research, publications relevant to dermatology
