Senior Assistant Technical Officer - Procurement

Job overview

An exciting vacancy has arisen for a full time post to support the Procurement team in the sourcing of medicines for the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The post holder will also assist with administrative duties within the department and may be required to work at different sites within the Trust.

The post holder must be self-motivated and confident and an excellent communicator. Excellent IT skills will be required to ensure all processes are carried out accurately and efficiently

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

  • Creating purchase orders for medicines and non-medicinal products.
  • Actively support and participate in stock management.
  • Chase outstanding orders with suppliers investigating MCS issues
  • Supporting the Pharmacy Administrator
  • To support the Unlicensed Technician with day to day processes
  • To assist with Drug Alerts
  • Support Distribution when needed
  • Assist with invoices when needed
  • Support dispensary when needed
  • Participating in the weekend/bank holiday and late night rota’s

You will need to already have the full award and your practice current and up to date or be working towards completing the NVQ 2 in Pharmacy Services imminently.

  • GCSE’s in English and Maths
  • Knowledge of Data Protection and Patient Confidentiality
  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services

  • Procurement Experience

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of data protection and patient/staff confidentiality
  • Experience of training on new systems
  • Understanding Patient’s needs, enabling the delivery of a safe and effective service.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Pharmacy Procurement
  • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy
  • Experience or knowledge of Hospital electronic prescribing systems
