Job overview
We are excited to announce that we have an excellent opportunity for a Specialty Doctor to join our CAMHS In-patient service at Parkview Clinic in Moseley, Birmingham and are looking to welcome a new colleague to join our enthusiastic, motivated and supportive inpatient mental health service. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a professional, diverse, and highly skilled multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will have experience of working within an MDT setting, and support the delivery of specialist psychiatric input, psychiatric assessment and treatment under supervision.

The Tier 4 Inpatient CAMHs Service forms part of the Mental Health Service Division at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital NHS Trust. The Trust also hosts the West Midlands Provider Collaborative who are working with us to develop our Tier 4 services. As part of our ongoing commitment to improving services we have a brand new state of the art 14 bedded GAU and have recently completed a refurbishment of our 8 bedded unit. We also provide a 12 bedded Specialist Eating Disorder unit.

Main duties of the job
High quality medical appointments are essential in delivering high standard of care to young people with complex mental health needs. The post holder will be qualified with full registration with GMC and a license to practice. They will be involved in assessment and management of in-patients presenting with a range of mental health issues under supervision of a consultant Psychiatrist. The post holder will have a close working relationship with multidisciplinary team in delivering care and treatment of young people admitted to inpatient unit.
The Trust has a strong commitment to supporting continuous professional development for all the clinicians. Mental Health Services have links with Institute of Mental Health, University of Birmingham and supports specialty doctors with interest in research and medical education. The Trust will offer a generous re-location package, further training opportunities and will also support candidates if they wish to pursue academic qualifications relevant to their role. The trust will support candidates wishing to pursue specialist registration via CESR route. The service has several specialist services under its umbrella, which offers candidates excellent opportunity to diversify their skills and be part of a vibrant peer group.
Depending on the interests of the post-holder there are excellent opportunities to be involved in service development, quality improvement projects, and post-graduate teaching.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

· To take part in weekly ward meetings that support the clinical model including ward round, CPA meetings, formulation and care planning meetings
· To oversee the medical care of inpatients on the ward including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric and physical aspects of children and young peoples’ presentation
· Undertake risk assessment and management
· Liaison with families and, where appropriate, with other agencies
· Undertake gateway assessments for referrals into the service
· Undertake activities to support the management of patients detained under the Mental Health Act · To consult with senior medical colleagues where further help with complex assessments is needed.
· To take clinical responsibility for any patient seen by him/ her, and for the advice he/she gives to members of the multi-disciplinary team.
· The post holder will contribute to admission planning, reviews and discharge planning with other members of the specialist team.
· The post holder will contribute to implementation of clinical guidelines.
· The post holder will support the team in participating in reviews e.g. QNIC standards and CQC reviews.
· To write letters and communications to GPs and other professionals as required.
· To participate in various medical staff meetings within Tier 4 Inpatient CAMHS.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment). GMC Licence to practise
- MRC Psych (or equivalent) Approval (or eligible for approval) under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act.
- Eligible to work in the UK

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
