Job overview

The Cardiac Rehabilitation team at the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a passionate and dynamic Band 6 Nurse Specialist to join their team and growing service.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team of cardiologists, cardiac nurses, exercise physiologists, cardiac rehabilitation assistants and administrative staff all committed to providing a highly specialised service to patients following a cardiac event or surgery.

We are looking for a proactive and self-motivated cardiac nurse with relevant and significant experience in delivering care to patients with cardiac conditions.  The post holder would be expected to provide specialist advice and deliver education and support through phases 1 to Phase 3, as well as undertaking the Pre-admission clinics for cardiac procedures and the Device clinics.

Main duties of the job

Under the mentorship of the senior cardiac rehabilitation nursing and exercise physiology team, the successful post holder will positively contribute to the care delivery of patients following an acute cardiac event and heart failure.

Their role will be to provide the necessary clinical expertise, education, support and guidance to patients and their caregivers.  The responsibilities of the post include in-patient advice and follow up in an outpatient setting, both face to face and telephone consultation.

Health assessment and the awareness of current, up-to-date guidance of secondary prevention medications are a critical component of the role.  Possession of the health assessment course and the Non-medical prescribing or commitment to acquire these qualifications are essential.

Prospective Band 6 candidates must be able to demonstrate relevant, significant post registration experience in Cardiology.

Working for our organisation

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country – one of the country’s most culturally diverse areas. It’s a friendly and welcoming place – a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.

We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.

Our values – Ambition, Respect and Compassion – are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.

Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to “Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population.” It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It’s what makes us unique.

We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded.
