Job overview
LOCUM CONSULTANT DERMATOLOGIST
We are seeking an enthusiastic Locum Consultant Dermatologist to join the Dermatology Team in our large teaching Trust.
The new post holders will join a department of 5 Consultant Dermatologists, Resident doctors and Plastic and ENT Surgery colleagues, and a dedicated nursing and administration team based at the Birmingham Skin Centre, City Hospital Campus. The successful candidates will join a well-established self-contained department with an outpatient area, skin theatre and minor procedures area, phototherapy suite, Cutaneous Allergy Unit and a regional Laser unit. Specialist services available in the department include dermatological surgery, tertiary cutaneous allergy, Laser therapy, paediatric dermatology, skin cancer, and a biologics service.
Main duties of the job
The Trust is committed to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and has strong links to the University of Birmingham and Health Education West Midlands with the Dermatology department having both Resident doctors in training, and as well as medical students. The department is involved in a variety of research activities with ample opportunities to contribute to these, or initiate relevant dermatology research projects.
The Trust is a key partner with the local commissioning group and the local authorities in the Right Care Right Here programme, which seeks to deliver a redevelopment of local health services. The programme includes one of the largest investments in the UK with new facilities in both the acute and community sectors. Included within this is MMUH.
The new appointees are expected to have a broad-based dermatology background. The jobs are flexible, and have been structured to provide surgical sessions which may be inclusive of Laser surgery for those with expertise in this area. Additionally the job provides general dermatology, paediatric dermatology, skin cancer and other clinics according to sub-specialty areas of interest.
It is expected that the post holders will have or will develop a subspecialty interest to complement the department and it is anticipated that the successful applicants will also have a well-developed interest in teaching, training and research.
Working for our organisation
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country – one of the country’s most culturally diverse areas. It’s a friendly and welcoming place – a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.
We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.
Our values – Ambition, Respect and Compassion – are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.
Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to “Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population.” It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It’s what makes us unique.
We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded.
