Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for qualified Assistant Practitioners in breast imaging to extend their role further to progress to AfC Band 5 by undertaking role expansion.

This would include assisting in a range of specialist mammography projections, working under remote supervision guided by clearly defined operational policies resulting in independent working and professional accountability and gaining underpinning knowledge to interpret QA test results.

The service is seeking a hardworking and dedicated Assistant Practitioner Mammographer to join our forward thinking breast care team. This is a substantive post covering the screening and symptomatic pathways at City Health Campus, Birmingham and Walsall Manor Hospital where Hologic Dimensions and GE Pristina equipment are installed.

The applicant will possess excellent interpersonal skills and will be willing to work closely with the clinical team to maintain an effective and efficient service.

Main duties of the job

·       The post-holder must hold a Foundation degree (FdSc) in Breast Imaging for Assistant Practitioners or equivalent, with significant experience of working within the NHSBSP.

·       The post holder undertakes mammographic examinations on mobile breast screening vans under remote radiographic supervision.

·       The post holder will also perform mammographic examinations on symptomatic patient and undertake reception, administration duties, and image and data transfer.

·       Duties will be undertaken at City Hospital and Walsall Manor Hospital to NHSBSP guidelines and Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust Quality Managements System (QMS) operating procedures.

·       The post holder would participate in current shift patterns as deemed appropriate.

·       by service requirements and will be able to evidence consistent TR/TP rates within national guidelines, depth of understanding of QA testing, competency in additional mammographic views, techniques, procedures, additional roles and CPD.

·       The post holder will take part in Breast Screening QA and audit, liaising closely with the Clinical Superintendent Radiographer / Programme Manager and Quality Assurance (QA) radiographer.

·       To lead, assist and mentor other members of the mammography team in conducting departmental audits, presentations, and mammographic technique.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Breast Imaging for Assistant Practitioners or equivalent qualification
  • • Accreditation with the Society of Radiographers

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in Breast Imaging as an Assistant Practitioner
  • Undertakes and assists in a range of specialist mammography projections in Breast Assessment clinics including imaging biopsy specimens. This will involve exposure to blood
  • IT Skills
  • Numeracy and literacy level 2
  • Portfolio of evidence demonstrating skills in mathematics, literacy, caring skills , communication and team working
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Portfolio of Clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • Working within the NHS breast screening Programme under remote radiographic supervision
  • To have experience in departmental Audit
  • Underpinning knowledge to interpret QA test results to know how to and when to take remedial action.
