Job overview

We are seeking to recruit  highly motivated, ambitious, kind and enthusiastic midwives to join our team who are committed to providing high quality, women centred care. 

As a trust, we care for approximately 6000 births every year and cover a very diverse population. This is an exciting opportunity for band 5  midwives, who are passionate about making a difference to join our team of highly skilled midwives in maternity.

We want to help you develop and enhance your skills and maximise your potential in all aspects of midwifery. We actively encourage staff development and have a fantastic clinical education team to provide our in house, multidisciplinary professional development training. We have excellent links with local universities for post registration development.

This post requires UK NMC qualification, which is gained after completion of OSCE, please do not apply if you have not done this. 

Please only apply for this post if you are currently a 3rd Year student that will be qualifying in September 2025 as this will involve a fully supportive preceptorship programme

Main duties of the job

Our maternity unit includes a Consultant Led Obstetric Unit – consisting of high risk labour and birth rooms (including two birth pool room),4 Enhanced Maternal Care beds, 2 obstetric theatres and recovery area, bereavement suite and maternity triage area.. We also have a 21 bedded postnatal ward and 21 bedded antenatal / transitional care ward. The Serenity Midwife Led Unit, our award winning  birth centre, has six birthing rooms .

Our midwifery posts are open to newly qualified band 5midwives. They will be rotational across the inpatient areas including Delivery Suite, Serenity Birth Centre, Antenatal/ Transitional Care ward and Postnatal ward and community.

The role will include:

  • Conducting routine antenatal care
  • Providing heath promotion information
  • Monitoring the progress of labour and birth
  • Assisting with pain management
  • Providing routine postnatal care
  • Providing post operative care

Essential criteria
  • Registered midwife on part 2 of the NMC professional register.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Completion of midwifery diploma/degree with clinical experience in all areas
  • Ability to work autonomously within professional and Trust’s guidelines.
  • Able to take the professional lead in caring for low risk women.
  • Experience with managing Obstetric Emergencies
Desirable criteria
  • Nipe
