From time to time you may be required to work outside of your area of responsibility and at an alternative location to suit service needs.

Post: 37.5 hrs per week                                                                                                                Salary:  £35273.59 - £36660.69 per annum

Main duties of the job

Role Purpose:

To carry out all duties of a carpenter including all other building trades as required. Core elements will include manufacture of purpose made joinery, maintenance and repair of fire escapes, fire doors, locks, key cutting, replacement of damaged architectural timberwork, manufacture and hanging doors, fitting kitchen units, fixing notices and signs, manufacture and fixing shelving etc.

Person specification

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Recognised CITB or EITB Apprenticeship with City and Guilds qualifications or demonstrable equivalent experience and willingness to undertake NVQs.
Desirable criteria
  • Post Apprenticeship qualifications, formal certificated training in relevant areas.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • 2 years post qualifying relevant experience or equivalent, good communication skills, flexible attitude to work situations.
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with the healthcare sector and day to day operation and maintenance of varying types of building/premises.

SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and appreciation of health and safety issues. Ability to use initiative, able to work on own or as part of a team. Respectful, conscientious, flexible, confident, mature nature, articulate.
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with other trades/works undertaken within the Estates Directorate. • Awareness and sensitive to specific needs regarding mental health environment.

OTHER

Essential criteria
  • Helpful, co-operative, conscientious, committed to the effective and efficient running of the Directorate and service delivery.
Desirable criteria
  • • Aptitude for self development, proactive with regards to new technology and working practices.
