The post holder, working with the Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), will be responsible for providing specialist knowledge and advice, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues relating to the management of the patient group. They will implement effective care of patients under the care of the major revision hip/knee and Bone Infection Service. Utilise and develop their skills across a variety of settings, working as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).

The post holder will: 
-Have specialist knowledge in the field of revision arthroplasty and bone infection and will have the skills to empower others in clinical practice.
-Offer an advisory role in the speciality of revision arthroplasty and bone infection, which supports health professionals, patients, and carers.
-Be responsible for supporting the ACP CNS in running nurse led services and clinics that support bone infection patients in their treatment pathway.
-Support the answering of telephone calls and emails to the service’s generic contact points, e.g., Bone Infection Service and Wound Infection Helpline

-Manage a specified case load of patients, providing information and support, to enable patients to make informed choices about their care and understand the rational of investigations and treatments. This would require frequent 
concentration due to the complexity.
-Implement patient care in conjunction with the ACP/CNS and MDT.
-Act as a role model of expert clinical practice for revision arthroplasty and bone infection care.
-Ensure standards of care are maintained in accordance with the Trusts care policies and clinical governance.
-Support the ACP/CNS in designated revision arthroplasty and bone infection clinics.
-Recognise and develop opportunities to expand own scope of practice in support of the service.
-Support the ACP/CNS to implement programs of evidence and research-based care.
-Provide health promotion and education for the patient, their family and carers.
-Ensure administration arrangements for the admission and discharge of patients are made safely and effectively in line with Trust policies.
-Ability and commitment to undertake clinical duties as and when required across the Trust.
-In the absence of the ACP/CNS be the first point of contact for the patients when questions arise along the patient pathway.
-Identify innovative care and practice to ensure best clinical outcomes to benefit the patients, families, carers and organisational needs.
-Act as patient advocate. Communicate the needs of the patient and their families effectively within the Trust and MDT
 Partake in daily reviews and ward rounds of revision arthroplasty and bone infection service patients.
-Support the ACP/CNS to develop and distribute educational leaflets in relevant formats, for staff and patients relating to the patient pathway.
-Supporting the ACP/CNS participate in the delivery of education relevant to the specialty within the Trust.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration
  • Diploma/Degree level nursing qualification
  • Willingness to complete postgraduate orthopaedic nursing course.
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional development

  • Post Registration training/qualification relevant to the specialty.

EXPERIENCE

  • Significant post registration band 5 experience in an acute surgical setting
  • Worked as a member of an MDT
  • Involvement in Audit
  • Evidence of ability to work autonomously
  • Evidence of ability to recognise complex situations and take appropriate actions

  • Experience in managing patients with bone infection
  • Orthopaedic surgery experience
