Job overview

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about driving dietary change in diabetes care, committed to service improvement, and ready to embrace an exciting new chapter in their career.

Whether you're newly qualified or more experienced, we’ll support your development. For those just starting out, we offer a structured competency training plan designed to help you progress to Band 6 within 6–12 months, depending on your experience and performance. If you're already experienced, you'll be able to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact as Band 6 specialist.

You’ll benefit from a diverse caseload that includes ward visits, home visits, and outpatient clinics for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. You’ll also contribute to the delivery of a wide range of structured diabetes education programmes.

We are committed to your professional development, offering opportunities to enhance your clinical expertise and grow your leadership skills in a nurturing environment.

Main duties of the job

The (Trainee) Specialist Diabetes Dietitian – Adult and Paediatric – will provide specialist dietetic assessment, advice, and counselling to a varied caseload of patients across both age groups. As a key member of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), the post holder will contribute to collaborative care planning and decision-making.

They will take the lead on the dietetic component of structured diabetes education for patients and their carers, empowering individuals to manage their condition and enhance their quality of life, including  Roche carbohydrate counting course, Xpert Training and  specialist dietary support to pregnant women with diabetes, ensuring safe and effective nutritional care throughout pregnancy.

Flexibility is essential, as the post holder will work across three MDTs: adult acute, adult community, and paediatric diabetes services, adapting to the needs of each setting while maintaining high standards of care.
