Simulation Technician

Job overview
The post holder will provide day to day co-ordination of all technical aspects of operating the Simulation Centre, including support with the delivery of simulation training and maintenance of equipment and facilities. It will involve working closely within Medical Leads, faculty, course delegates and other centre based staff.
Main duties of the job
Set-up & Operation of Simulation Equipment
Prepare, operate, & maintain high-fidelity manikins, clinical task trainers, AV systems, and supporting IT equipment for simulation sessions.
Technical Support During Sessions
Provide real-time technical assistance during simulations, including operating manikin software, adjusting physiological parameters & troubleshooting equipment.
Scenario Programming & Management
Assist in the development & programming of simulation scenarios in coordination with faculty & clinical educators.
AV Recording & Debrief Support
Operate AV equipment to record sessions for debrief & learning & manage playback during post-simulation reviews.
Equipment Maintenance & Inventory Management
Perform routine checks, maintenance &repairs on simulation equipment manage inventory, ordering & safe storage of all simulation resources.
Environment Setup & Reset
Prepare & restore simulated clinical environments (e.g., wards, theatres, emergency settings) to replicate realistic scenarios.
Health and Safety Compliance
Ensure all equipment is used safely & in compliance with infection prevention, manual handling & data protection protocols.
Liaison & Coordination
Work closely with educators, clinicians, learners to support the delivery of simulation training, including scheduling, setup, feedback.
Innovation & Development
Support the continuous improvement of simulation services by staying up to date with new technologies & contributing to service development projects.

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
- Trained in healthcare/administration to NVQ level 3 (equivalent or higher)
- Science Council/ASPiH registered Science Technician or commitment to achieve registration.
Knowledge and Training
Essential criteria
- Willingness to undertake further training in support of role.
- knowledge of Simulation Based Education and associated methodologies.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft N365 Systems.
- Able to work creatively to devise and apply moulage techniques in support of high fidelity simulation.
Experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience in supporting the delivery of simulation based education.
- Experience of working in a healthcare environment.
- Experience of working in a multi-professional environment.
- Experience of working in an educational setting.
Communication and Relationship Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills and understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
- Able to articulate and effectively communicate specialist and technical information so that participants in simulation are able to use equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with staff across the medical education team.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to evaluate technical aspects of simulation delivery and identify limitations and areas for improvement.
- Able to troubleshoot issues with Audio/Visual systems and high fidelity manikins in order to ensure smooth running of sessions.
Planning and Organisational Skills
Essential criteria
- Use own initiative to identify works to be completed, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Able to use digital systems such as, but not limited to bookwise, MS Teams, Microsoft 365 in order to support the organisation of simulation sessions.
- Able to respond flexibly and positively to changing requirements.
- Able to adjust working times to accommodate later finishing, early starts and occasional weekend working.
Physical Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to undertake a moderate degree of moving and handling duties.
