Job overview

We invite applications for the role of Consultant Ophthalmologist with special interest in glaucoma. This position is crucial for advancing our glaucoma service, and the successful candidate will collaborate with the Glaucoma Team. 

Main duties of the job

The post entails 10 Programmed Activities (PAS), encompassing outpatient clinics, laser and day case sessions. These activities are aligned with departmental needs to deal with the glaucoma backlog for new and follow-up patients, including patient-related administrative and SPA (Supporting Professional Activities) responsibilities. 

Teaching and training junior doctors and medical students, participating in audit activities, and supporting the acute referral service as required.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • On the Specialist Register, hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within 6 months of obtaining the CCT
  • FRCOphth or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Degree

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Sub-specialty experience and training in the clinical management of Glaucoma and Glaucoma Surgery
  • Up-to-date knowledge of clinical issues related to speciality
  • Clinical training and experience and ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates effective and inclusive communication skills, being able to listen and act appropriately
  • Responsive to feedback and able to take other people’s opinions on board
