Job overview

Do you have a passion for working with in a paediatric setting? Do you want to work in a challenging environment?  We are looking to recruit a Band 4 Nursing Associate on a fixed term contract for 12-months to cover maternity leave.  The busy children’s ward has an identified Paediatric Assessment Unit, High Dependency Area, Young Person’s Area and a Dedicated Day Case area.  We require someone who is adaptable to work in all areas of the ward and who is a real team player.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development and implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
  • Conduct nursing management rounds to prioritize care on the children's ward.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, and ensure they are informed and involved in care decisions.
  • Perform and teach additional clinical roles, support learning in both the Children's Ward.
  • Promote the use of the nursing process and individual patient care models.
  • Ensure accurate nursing records are maintained.
  • Foster effective department and multidisciplinary communication.
  • Contribute to the development of new care techniques and participate in ethical research.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audits, and setting standards.
  • Maintain NMC requirements and stay updated in nursing practice.
  • Address minor concerns and escalate serious complaints as per policy.
  • Attend to children’s developmental and special needs, including visits and play.
  • Provide care for critically ill/injured children in the Paediatric High Dependency Unit.

The post holder may be required to cross cover other paediatric areas in the hospital.

  • Evidence of professional development

Knowledge and Training

  • Computer literate.
  • Commitment to evidence based practice
  • Keen to develop own skills and develop nursing practice
  • Has up to date knowledge of current nursing issues and changes to NHS
  • Research awareness
Desirable criteria
  • Competent in clinical skills i.e. ECG, venepuncture
