We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual that will support and maintain pharmacy procurement and stores services. 

We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician with strong interpersonal skills, ideally with an ACPT qualification or be willing to work towards. We welcome applications from individuals with excellent communications skills, ability to problem solve and a have a patient-centre attitude. The role requires the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and have the motivation to strive for continued improvement.  

Applicants should possess NVQ level 3 or equivalent, a BTEC national certificate, be registered with the GPhC and have current hospital experience.  This is post offers a structured training programme.

Hours of work will be 7.5hrs Monday to Friday 8:30 - 5.00pm and late nights on a rota basis, late night hours will be 11:00 – 7:30pm.  The post holder will be required to participate on weekends/bank holiday working on a rota basis to support a seven-day service.  Hours of work to be discussed at interview. 

 

Main duties of the job

 

  • Work within guidelines and procedures ensuring that the procurement of medicines meet all legal, professional, organizational requirements and that medicines are stored correctly and safely.
  • To generate and transmit orders via ordering systems in place for pharmaceutical items, as well as utilising companies’ own electronic systems.
  •  Responsibility for the routine operation of the stores department in the absence of the Senior Technician. 
  • To redirect orders when manufacturers are unable to supply specific items, using training provided to identify alternative suppliers to ensure continuity of supply. (with support, when necessary, from the appropriate senior technicians and pharmacists).
  •  To identify and resolve problems with suppliers’ deliveries and inform senior staff when continuity of supply is compromised.
  •  Ensure that the relevant pharmacy staff are aware of medicines supply issues in line with procedures.  
  • To ensure that MHRA, DH or NPSA alerts regarding medicines supply are acted upon in the appropriate timeframe.
  • To work under the direction of the Dispensary Manager and provide the rotational role daily “team leader” in the dispensary when the Senior Technician is unavailable.
  •  Provide dispensing accuracy checks as an Accredited Checking Technician.

Planning & Organisational Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to work during the normal working week, extended hours, weekends and bank holidays.

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience in either a community or Hospital pharmacy evidenced by competency-based assessment.
  • Experience with an electronic prescribing or IT systems
Desirable criteria
  • Hospital pharmacy experience including pharmacy procurement
  • Recent qualification experience in hospital pharmacy, evidenced by a competency based assessment

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent AND BTEC National Certificate in Pharmacy services
  • ACT Technician or willingness to work towards qualification
  • Experience in providing Medicines Management Services
