Pharmacy Technician for Digital Systems (Step Band 4 to 5 considered)

NHS AfC: Band 5

Job overview

Are you a registered Pharmacy Technician with an interest in digital healthcare, medicines safety and service improvement? This is an exciting opportunity to join the Pharmacy Digital Team and develop specialist experience supporting the digital systems used across medicines pathways.

Working with the Principal Pharmacist and Lead Pharmacy Technician for Digital Medicines and EPMA, you will help deliver, maintain and optimise systems including EPMA, digital temperature monitoring, the Pharmacy Tracking System and robotic dispensing. You will provide practical support to users, contribute to testing and implementation, help deliver training and work with Pharmacy, clinical teams, Digital/IT, Estates and external suppliers to resolve issues and improve services.

Applications are welcomed from Band 5 pharmacy technicians and Band 4 pharmacy technicians seeking to develop into a Band 5 role. For those appointed at Band 4, a structured competency pathway will support progression to Band 5 once the required competencies and accreditations have been achieved. The role combines pharmacy practice with digital systems support, governance and service improvement.

Main duties of the job

·       Support the implementation, maintenance, development and optimisation of digital medicines and pharmacy systems across the Trust.

·       Act as a superuser for designated systems, providing first-line support, troubleshooting and practical advice to Pharmacy and wider Trust staff.

·       Contribute to system configuration, testing, implementation, upgrades, enhancements and business-continuity arrangements.

·       Help identify opportunities to use digital technology to improve medicines safety, patient care, workflow efficiency and pharmacy services.

·       Investigate and escalate system issues, working collaboratively with clinical teams, Digital/IT, Estates and external suppliers.

·       Develop and maintain SOPs, guidance, training materials, system records and other digital medicines documentation.

·       Deliver and support training for Pharmacy and wider Trust staff in the safe and effective use of digital medicines systems.

·       Contribute to reports, KPIs, audits, incident processes and service-improvement projects.

·       Monitor and respond to digital temperature-monitoring alerts in line with Trust procedures.

·       Contribute to the dispensary service, including medicines supply, patient counselling and final accuracy checking once accredited.

·       Contribute to weekend, evening and bank holiday pharmacy services as required.
