Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and innovative nurse to join the Research and Innovation Department to support with a variety of commercial and academic clinical trials. 

The role offers a unique opportunity and  includes close liaison with clinicians, data managers, pharmaceutical companies, outpatient and inpatient staff.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in research, will be organised and efficient and will enjoy working in a fast paced environment with a variety of stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

The role will include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating research nursing care and providing support to patients who have been or have the potential to be recruited onto a clinical trial programme.

This includes ensuring the clinical trial has received full approval to proceed from R&I, collecting data, interviewing, supporting, monitoring patients, and data entry. Clinical aspects of the role will include phlebotomy, analysis of blood specimens, drug administration and clinical observation.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse (NMC registration)
  • Evidence of professional development and regular study since qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of ability to teach & assess
  • Research qualification

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of involving patients in service development
  • Knowledge of the relevance of Governance and risk management within clinical practice
Desirable criteria
  • Up to date Good Clinical Practice training
  • Knowledge of Research Governance

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent, relevant experience of working in a clinical setting at band 5 or above, involving patients or service users
  • Experience of team working
Desirable criteria
  • Previous, relevant experience of working in clinical trials

Communication & Relationship skills

  • Able to liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Able to establish effective communication systems
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication including presentation and IT skills
