Urethroplasty Fellow

NHS Medical & Dental: Trust registrar

Job overview

This post has been created to teach a senior urology trainee genito-urethral reconstruction with the emphasis on urethroplasty. Paul Anderson carries out 130 to 140 NHS urethroplasties per year – Bulbar, penile (BXO and hypospadias both virgin and salvage) full length and Bulboprostatic anastamotic. This is 70% of the operative workload. The rest comprises revision circumcision, Peyronie’s, buried penis, Fourniere’s / hydradenitis reconstruction and oddities. Private sector work includes repair of damage from genital piercings and removal of genital silicone.

The post would suit a post-exam trainee or an overseas doctor with a good grounding in general urology to allow them to focus on this subspecialty. The length of the fellowship can be tailored to the individual from six months to two years or longer if desired. This post is available from January 2026.

Interested applicants or indeed those simply wishing to discuss how such a fellowship would fit into their training and benefit them, should contact Mr Anderson via email [email protected]

Past fellows of this post will be happy to talk candidly about the fellowship to potential applicants

Main duties of the job

The timetable will include urethrograms, specialist clinics and two days a week in theatre. There will be a service component and urology on call at registrar level. Other opportunities include joining the next Urolink visit to University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia (as previous fellows have). There is also a wealth of data that needs writing up and presenting.
