Job overview

Main base Russell Hall Hospital with requirement to work across Black Country Vascular Network at New Cross Hospital and Walsall Manor Hospital sites to fulfil their role, and working at any other Trust site as required.

  • The Clinical Research Fellow will be expected to undertake a science project in the field of vascular disease at the University of Wolverhampton which will lead to a higher degree.
  • There are various research opportunities open to the post holder and there will be excellent support by the supervisors
  • The current MD project will be in the field of Peripheral arterial disease supervised by Mr Michael Wall and Professor Angel Armesilla.
  • This is an 80% research position with a 20% clinical commitment and an on-call commitment to the emergency vascular rota at Russell Hall Hospital.
  • Internally the post holder will develop effective working relationships with:
    • Consultants
    • Service Management Team & Clinical Office
    • Across all Specialities
    • BCVN trust R&D departments
    • Clinical Research Network
  • Externally this includes
    • Colleagues in other NHS Trusts and organisations.
    • University of Wolverhampton

Main duties of the job

  • To have made an effective contribution to reaching the Trust’s vision, strategic objectives and key work programs.
  • To advance the investigation and treatment of vascular disease with academic study and research.
  • Participate in educational programs for specialist treatment of vascular disorders and to educate medical staff at the Trust and through the West Midlands Deanery
  • To enrol for a higher degree at the University of Wolverhampton (MD for 2 years, PhD for 3 years)

To help build the project ideas for future study.

  • Expression of PMCA 4 in infra-renal Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
  • Mr Michael Wall, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, Black Country Vascular Network.
  • Prof Angel Armesilla, Professor of Cardiovascular Molecular Pharmacology, University of Wolverhampton
