Job overview
Job Summary
The post holder will be expected to implement a Falls infrastructure that involves risk assessment, education, investigation and monitoring of falls. Where falls do occur, the post holder is expected to ensure appropriate assessments and interventions are put in place to prevent any further falls.
To achieve this, the post holder will manage a group of Falls Safe Champions ensuring their Falls practice is in line with latest National Guidance and best practice, and that this is embedded at ward level with all staff. They will ensure that all patient falls are reported correctly, lessons are learned and good practice is shared throughout the Trust.
To provide evidence of successful falls management, the post holder will organise and participate in a range of audits that will provide assurance to the Trust that falls are being appropriately managed.
Main duties of the job
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Datix Management of Patient Falls
• Review every Datix report of patient falls within acute Trust wards.
• Attend wards and review patient and patient information to ensure correct falls assessment has
been undertaken and relevant falls prevention measures are implemented as appropriate.
• Discuss with the ward team any immediate learning from the fall.
• Keep records of lessons learned and actions taken, reporting these to Governance on a
monthly basis.
• Review the accuracy of Datix falls reports for harm, severity code and category of fall,
correcting Datix as applicable.
• Where harm is identified after the incident has been logged, contact Governance to ensure
relevant reporting to STEIS is made.
• Participate in incident investigation reviews where required , assisting ward staff to produce a
clear and concise report of falls incidences.
Management of Falls Safe Champion Group
• Identify a Registered Nurse Falls Link Representative for each ward and department.
• Organise and chair monthly Falls Safe Champion Meetings to ensure practice is updated and
fed back to staff at ward level.
• Produce a standard agenda for the meeting.
• Produce terms of reference for the group, review and updating annually.

Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
- First Level Registered Nurse Or Health Care Professional Council Registration
- A recognised course of study in teaching and assessing or AHP who is a practical/clinical educator
- Relevant professional development and regular study since qualification
- Educated to degree level
Desirable criteria
- AHP applicants: Member of CSP/COT
Knowledge and Training
Essential criteria
- Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care
- Computer literate with particular skills in Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of patient care delivery in an acute setting
- Substantial post registration experience

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
