Job overview

Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust and The Dudley Group Foundation Trust have moved to work together in a group model. As part of this collaboration a Group Chief Nursing Officer role has been created and individual Trust Chief Nurses for each organisation reporting to the Group Chief Nursing Officer.  

The role of the Trust Chief Nursing Officer ensures that patients cared for within the Trust receive compassionate care and that quality meets their needs at all times. The role will work with the Group Chief Nurse to contribute to the strategic and corporate direction in the Trust and also lead a portfolio across the group whilst working closely with Trust and Group Executives and senior managerial and clinical colleagues. 

Main duties of the job

To provide Trust leadership to the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional (AHP)workforce within the organisation. 

To provide advice to Trust and Group Executive colleagues, managers and senior clinicians on any matters relating to the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional body. 

Manage and lead on the Trust quality, safety and patient experience agenda  

Lead across the Group on either Quality &Safety or Workforce and Education to endure consistency and alignment whilst also leading your Trust 

Work closely with the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Operating Officer to develop a culture which embeds quality & Safety and monitors its effectiveness. 

Support the Group Chief Nursing Officer /Director of Infection Prevention and Control in developing strategies to ensure effective IPC is in place across the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Excellent academic record at 1st Degree level or above.
  • Educated to masters degree level in health-related subject or equivalent.
  • Relevant professional nursing qualification.
  • NMC registration

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Evidence of recent management and leadership development.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Successful track record of senior nursing leadership at Board level within a complex acute healthcare environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of patient safety systems and processes including clinical risk and safeguarding vulnerable people.
  • Demonstrable track record of achievement in quality and patient experience.
  • Experience in leading service and transformational change.
  • Effective partnership and working with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstration of significant experience in situational leadership, human resource management and people development.
