Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

Job overview
The Theatre Matron will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational day to day management of the theatre practice setting, including standards of care, budget management and control, clinical governance staff development and training.
They will provide clinical and professional leadership ensuring that action is taken at all levels to empower all staff to provide high standards of care in a safe environment.
They will be highly visible, accessible and act as a champion for privacy and dignity, professional standards and patient advocacy. They will act as a role model, demonstrate respect, dignity and compassion when delivering their professional duties, and uphold the principles of equality and diversity.
Main duties of the job
Under the direction of Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing, Divisional Director of Operations and Divisional Medical Director, the post holder will work alongside the Theatre Manager and Care Group Managers to support the planning, development and delivery of multi-speciality services to ensure that there is a common understanding of capacity and demand to ensure the best possible use of resources. They will support the development of a sustainable safe workforce that is fit for the future with the department Educators. They will ensure services are delivered in a culture where patient safety, high clinical quality, service improvement and financial accountability are paramount.
The post holder may be expected to provide support to other services in the Division in the absence of peers. When required, he/she will deputise in the absence of the Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.
A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.

- Relevant surgical qualification/experience working towards degree or above
- Well-developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to motivate individuals and teams
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of accredited management / leadership training or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level
- Experience planning and implementing service developments
- An understanding of the need to assess the quality of service delivered and how this can be achieved, can demonstrate participation in the benchmarking process and implementation of service improvement.
Interview
Essential criteria
- Relevant surgical qualification/experience working towards degree or above
- Evidence of accredited management / leadership training or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level
- Substantial experience working at AfC Band 7, managing a department in an acute NHS healthcare provider.
Desirable criteria
- Working knowledge of theatre audits, CQC standards and can relate to the practicalities of the clinical area
- Must have a clear understanding of their professional responsibilities and relate it to the position incorporating the Trust values
- Awareness of strengths and weaknesses and areas for development
