Community Midwife

Band 6

Walsall Manor Hospital is a busy district general hospital offering compete range of acute services. The Trust primarily serves the immediate population of Walsall with some patients requiring more specialised treatment at other, neighbouring Trusts. The Trust continues to invest in its facilities and services, supporting high-quality care for the communities it serves.

This role offers the opportunity to work within our integrated care model, contributing to high-quality services that help people remain independent in their own homes and communities.

We are committed to investing in our workforce and creating an environment where colleagues can learn, contribute and develop. Our new Urgent Emergency Care Centre, opened in March 2023, demonstrates our ongoing investment in facilities and services.

As an employee, you’ll benefit from an attractive salary and comprehensive benefits package (detailed in Employer Description above), plus access to NHS pension arrangements and staff accommodation where available.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is proud to be part of the Armed Forces Covenant, currently holding the Bronze Award, underlining our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces Community.

Job overview

Our community midwives promote normality and the use of alternative therapies for the benefit of all women. If you are looking for the opportunity to work innovatively, using a continuity of carer model, utilising and developing your midwifery skills within a successful community team then this may be the opportunity for you.
You must be flexible, having the ability to work across a large geographical area and to participate in our on-call rota and shifts as required to support the hospital, homebirth and the midwifery led unit.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for registered midwives to join our Community Midwifery Team for Walsall Healthcare Trust. You will be experienced, enthusiastic and caring and must be able to work autonomously, demonstrating excellent clinical skills to provide effective, individualised women centered care.

You will be the named midwife for a designated caseload of women, providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care, in the home environment and within midwife led settings, providing one to one care during labour.

Working for our organisation

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.
We would particularly welcome applications from people from a BME background and people with a disability as these groups are currently under-represented at senior level. We value diversity within our Trust and are working to achieve equality in our recruitment.
We support flexible working for all employees and prospective applicants.
Any settled workers meeting the requirements must be offered the position in preference to any non-resident candidates meeting the requirements, unless the role falls under a PhD-level code, in which case sponsorship may be attained.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Our community midwives promote normality and the use of alternative therapies for the benefit of low-risk women. If you are looking for the opportunity to work innovatively, using a continuity of carer model, utilizing and developing your midwifery skills within a successful community team then this may be the opportunity for you.
