To deliver scientific/ technical procedures previously performed by Biomedical Scientists, under the direction of the responsible Biomedical Scientist. In some areas may be working independently but usually as part of a team. 

Performs a number of healthcare science clinical/ technical/ scientific activities, for example, performs standard laboratory tests and processes a range of different sample types e.g urine, swabs, wound drains, faeces and blood.

Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out and may input/ interrogate test results of others. 

Will be required to supervise, organize and allocate work and/ or train less experienced staff in own area.

Main duties of the job

To follow the standard operating procedures at all times and make suggestion for improvement to these documents.

To measure and monitor the accuracy and precision of laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures and carry out corrective action when the quality control procedures indicate loss of performance

Undertake complex laboratory testing which includes:
•    Preparation and processing of samples to include serology and routine respiratory samples in CL3
•    Reading and reporting negative chromogenic agar plates and referring any potential positives to the BMS e.g MRSA culture plates
•    Reading and reporting environmental testing culture plates and referring any isolates for full identification to the BMS
•    The post holder would be expected to problem solve and liaise closely with the BMS staff with regards to this work.
