Occupational Therapist (Community Rehab)

NHS AfC: Band 7

Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust is a friendly, integrated healthcare provider focused on improving the life chances and health outcomes of our diverse population.

We have three strategic objectives:

People: To cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff;

Patients: To be good or outstanding at everything we do;

Population: To work seamlessly with partners to improve lives;

We run services from Sandwell, City and Rowley Regis Hospitals, Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, Birmingham Treatment Centre, the Lyng and Leasowes Intermediate Care Centre. Our GP practices and community teams provide care in schools, healthcare centres and at home.

Our next milestone is opening the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), a once in a career opportunity to shape care transformation within and beyond the hospital walls.

Developing and caring for our People is fundamental. We were one of the first Trusts to provide the Real Living Wage, as well as a Live and Work scheme to support people at risk of homelessness into paid work and training. We offer a range of staff benefits, health & wellbeing support and will help you to bring your ambition to life through our bespoke training and development programmes. As “People” is one of our three strategic objectives, we make a continued commitment to prioritise support for all our colleagues.

Healthcare services have a significant impact on the environment. We are committed to embedding sustainable practices. We expect all colleagues to support the delivery of our Green Strategic Plan and to drive positive changes in their department.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Band 7 Occupational Therapist  with a passion for community rehabilitation . You will join the Integrated Care Service (iCares) which works across Sandwell Community providing rehabilitation and admission avoidance in a variety of settings.

We are transforming how we work with the implementation of town teams, where multi agency teams including the third sector will work collaboratively around a geographical area. This will promote community rehabilitation within a framework of prevention and self-care.

Within the current iCares Service we have Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Community Matrons, Speech and Language Therapists, Assistant Practitioners and Rehab Support Workers, delivering integrated care and supporting people in their own homes with frailty, neurological conditions, stroke, dementia and many other long term conditions. You will bring your expertise as a senior experienced Occupational Therapist to promote community rehabilitation and achieve patient centred oucomes.

Main duties of the job

The key duties for the post holder will be;

To provide leadership and oversight of Community Rehabilitation.

Have experience of both short and long term Rehabilitation best practice.

You will work closely with a Band 7 peers and Service Leads.

To be a lead clinician within the Service planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the integrated therapy service provided to patients on a daily basis.

To provide highly developed specialist assessment and treatment of patients with planned and unplanned complex presentations within community settings.

To supervise, assess and educate team members including bank or agency staff, support workers and student therapists.

We would be happy to support an experienced Band 6 who still needs some structured support to make that leap to their first Band 7 post.

Working for our organisation

The Trust aims to be the most integrated organisation in the NHS with support for new ways of working and innovation.

Sandwell Community is an exciting place to be, with high ambitions to deliver the best community rehabilitation for the people of Sandwell.

Everything we do in the iCares Directorate strives to add value to the patient and their community. We do this by joining up our teams and services to keep people safe and well in their community. We have fantastic links with partners across the local authority and third sectors in order to achieve this.

We are a friendly team who support each other. Training and regular supervision are available and no one works in isolation.

As a trust we fully support flexible working and part time workers, which can be factored into your working pattern.

Within iCares we operate a 7 day service 8am-8pm, we take it in turns to contribute to weekend working  and 8pm finishes. You would also need to be a car driver and have access to transport.
