We welcome both nurse and physio applicants for this post.

This is an exciting opportunity for a band 6 nurse or physio (advert open to applicants from both profession) to join our well established and supportive community team.

You may have been working in respiratory as a band 5 and/or have nursing/physio experience and wish to persue a career in respiratory.

We care for respiratory patients in their place of residence and in clinics within Sandwell.

A main part of our work is admission avoidance and you would be part of a team the responded to urgent referrals and assessed and treated patients with the aim of avoiding an admission to hopsital.

We care for patients with asthma, COPD, bronchectasis and fibrosis.

We hold oxygen and spirometry clinics and pulmonary rehab classes across the Sandwell borough.

The post holder will be required to work on a rota basis to cover weekends and bank holidays.

The post holder will require access to a vehicle for work purposes and have a full UK licence. 

Main duties of the job

To work indeoendently in the community for Sandwell patients and their families to provde them with expert respiratory care.

You will be required to travel to the patients residence for this post and also work within a clinic setting.

You will work with patients who have COPD, ILD, Asthma and Bronchiectasis.

You will work on a rota basis (to include bank holidays and weekends) to provide urgent care, urgent triage, breathlessness management, pulmonary rehab, oxygen assessment and prescription and routine care. You will work alongside experoenced clinciians and be trained in each areas of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will work with patients with respiratory disease in a community setting throughout the borough of Sandwell and have a pivotal role in their assesment, treatment and long term management.

A main part of our work is admission avoidance and you would be part of a team the responded to urgent referrals and assessed and treated patients with the aim of avoiding an admission to hopsital.

You will work within a service that provides pulmonary rehab, urgent and routine assessment, breathlessness management, long covid support and oxygen assessment and prescription. 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing or Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of practice in respiratory care
  • Current registration with NMC
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate course related to respiratory care
  • V300 Non-Medical

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post graduate experience
  • Recent experience in respiratory care in either an acute or community setting
  • Leadership skills
Desirable criteria
  • Spirometry procedure and interpretation
  • Relevant course in respiratory disease
  • Capillary and /or arterial blood gas sampling
  • Able to interpret blood gases and prescribe oxygen accordingly
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Use of motivational interviewing
