Job overview

To work alongside clinical healthcare scientists within the Cardiac Investigations Department to deliver diagnostic cardiology procedures within defined protocols. Key clinical areas will be analysis of ambulatory recordings with suitable supervision and an assisting role in exercise testing and Dobutamine stress echocardiography. The post holder would also assist at implantable loop recorder implant and in follow up clinics.

The associate practitioner will co-ordinate the day to day running of the electrocardiography and ambulatory monitoring/event recorder services and take some supervisory responsibility for the other assistant clinical scientists within the department.

Main duties of the job

Provides clinical technical services.

Independently undertake accurate and high quality ECG recordings, ambulatory ECG and BP recordings.

Have the knowledge and ability to interpret ECG recordings.

Undertakes non routine tests.

Under appropriate supervision, perform analysis of ambulatory ECG recordings.

Provide technical assistance at implant of ILR (Implantable loop recorders) and play a key role in the follow up of these devices with support from healthcare scientists.

Provide assistance in patient preparation and provide ECG and BP monitoring during exercise stress testing and Dobutamine stress testing.

 Oversee the day to day running of the electrocardiography and ambulatory monitoring/event recorder  service.

 Co-ordinate the staff within the electrocardiography and ambulatory monitoring/event recorder  service to ensure all urgent and elective work is carried out efficiently.

Ensure standards are maintained and departmental policies and procedure are followed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To be aware of and always act within trust and local  policies, procedures and protocols.

To show a commitment to learning and undertake any training and competency assessment deemed necessary to fulfil the duties of the post.

To develop within the role with training, support and supervision to meet the clinical needs of the department.

To be aware of own limitations and actively seek to address these with support from a mentor.

 Ensure stock levels in your area are maintained.

 Ensure equipment in your area is maintained appropriately and reported   as  faulty if necessary.

  Requirement for assisting in moving patients.

Accurately document and dispatch all patient details and test results according to trust and local policies.

To communicate effectively with diverse groups of patients and relatives to ensure a positive patient experience.

To communicate with other health care professionals in order to provide safe, appropriate, efficient and timely patient care.      

To support senior and junior members of staff in the delivery of high quality patient care.

To offer support to new staff and students and where appropriate share knowledge and experience.

 Contribute to service development through feedback to senior members of the department any issues/concerns that affect quality of service delivery or any ideas that may improve service delivery or patient  experience     

Contribute to team development through active participation and engagement in team meetings.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 4 GCSE
  • Diploma in Electrocardiography
  • 3 years experience
Desirable criteria
  • BLS
  • Certificate in ECG
