Consultant Interventional Radiologist

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Due to  additional activity and an additional interventional suite, there is a requirement for a Consultant Radiologist to join our dynamic, forward thinking and inclusive  interventional radiology team at New Cross Hospital.  You will gain all the benefits from a well-established team (including mentoring for complex cases if needed), while enjoying plentiful opportunities for professional development. Successful applicants will join a department where providing excellent patient care is part of the culture. Post holders will have FRCR and GMC registration as well as CCT for the post (or within 6 months of anticipated receipt of a CCT at the time of interview). Its equivalent (CESR) is also acceptable.

Main duties of the job

The Radiologist will be expected to provide a wide range of both vascular and non-vascular interventional services to sustain a growing demand. We offer an on call interventional service to the wider Black Country population, so experience in emergency IR to include embolization will be expected. In addition, the successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to the the prostate artery and uterine artery embolization services.. As a regional cancer centre, we perform renal tumour ablation and going forward plan to develop oncological interventional services for hepatobiliary cancers (to include RFA and TACE), so expertise in these areas would be favourable. As part of the Black Country vascular network, the successful candidate will have a regular commitment to sessions at the vascular hub ( Russell’s Hall Hospital) where there is the opportunity to perform endovascular work (angioplasty/stenting) and join our EVAR programme (including complex fenestrated EVARs).

The appointed candidate will be expected to participate in the general radiology work of the department and other sub specialty skills are welcome and will be encouraged.

Working for our organisation

The Radiology Department at New Cross Hospital is housed in a modern, purpose built PFI facility and is very well equipped with an established capital equipment replacement programme.
The Trust has a robust PACS with fully integrated voice recognition system. Flexible working and Teleradiology with potential to work from home is available.
Wolverhampton is part of the West Midland conurbation. The region offers both rural beauty in nearby Shropshire as well as the excellent urban facilities of a large city. Being located centrally, road and rail services provide easy access to the whole country and Birmingham International Airport is nearby.  The West Midlands hosts a cluster of internationally reputed primary and secondary schools and affordable quality housing.
