Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work appropriately and effectively within your clinical team within the limits of your competency under clinical and educational supervision.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, and commensurate with your grade, to play a full part in the supervision and support of other members of your team including more junior medical staff .

In conjunction with colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.

In conjunction with colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met and to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

To accept a duty to other staff and patients to ensure that any risks, incidents and hazards are reported and managed appropriately.
In conjunction with colleagues, to play a full part in the rota for the department and to provide cover for colleagues in respect of periods of leave and, under agreed circumstances, to be available to provide emergency cover.

To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC.

Desirable criteria

MRCP
Other basic degree, e.g. BSc, Honours or undergraduate distinction

Management Skills

Essential criteria

Demonstrate effective team working skills.
Time management/organisational ability. An example may be they have developed and run training programmes.
Proven knowledge of systems and process of NHS or equivalent.

Experience

Essential criteria

2 years of post qualification experience
Management of acute and chronic general medical diseases under supervision

Desirable criteria

Presented evidence of experience to date supported by references
Up to date ALS or ATLS certificate
Attainment of the UK foundation programme or an equivalent level of experience
Senior Fellows will have 6 mths experience in the chosen speciality minimum equivalent to ST 1/2

Tech-enabled outcome report writing

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
