Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician iLipids Project Fixed Term

Job overview

Support and assist the Prescribing Support team in Primary Care with the iLipid Project, a targeted population screening initiative aimed at enhancing the detection and management of Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH).

A part-time position (0.2 WTE) offering a unique opportunity to contribute to an innovative, high-impact public health initiative with the potential for regional and national expansion.

 

 

Main duties of the job

Contribute to the early identification, cardiovascular risk assessment, and preventative treatment of high-risk patients.

Assist in the retrospective and prospective identification of patients eligible for the iLipids test, using clinical system searches and data extraction from EMIS Web.

Engage in patient outreach, including sending text messages, phone calls, letters, and coordinating with interpreter services to improve access to FH screening.

Work alongside a multidisciplinary team, including a Project Pharmacist and Lipid Nurse, to ensure patients receive appropriate preventative treatments and referrals for genetic testing where necessary.

Maintain accurate documentation and patient records, supporting seamless follow-up, data management, and audit activities.

Development and delivery of training resources, workshops, and IT solutions to enhance clinician awareness and confidence in using the iLipids system.

Support quality improvement initiatives, ensuring the sustainability of FH screening and embedding the iLipids system into routine clinical practice.

Qualifications and Experience / Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science, NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent)
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Evidence of up-to-date continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Experienced qualified pharmacy technician with several years post-qualification experience (preferably at least 12 months in Primary Care)
  • Extensive knowledge of medicines / drugs and related medical conditions with experience in medicines management, lipid optimisation and patient counselling
  • Basic clinical knowledge and awareness of health promotion issues.
  • Familiar with prescription data (PACT)
  • Knowledge of NHS Primary Care priorities in cardio vascular disease prevention
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of processes associated with managing risk and how to record and deal with critical incidents.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in using the internet, emails (Outlook) and Microsoft Office programmes including Word and Excel
  • Strong data extraction and clinical system navigation skills (experience with EMIS Web and AccuRx is essential).
  • Ability to manipulate and present clinical data for a variety of audiences for audits and evaluation Evidence of participating in audit.
  • Able to work independently within appropriate occupational / professional guidelines.
  • Able to prioritise workload and analyse complex data
  • Able to continually update knowledge, skills and challenge own practice
  • Fast and accurate keyboard skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and develop services and systems to meet changing needs

  • Communicate complex and sensitive clinical information clearly and effectively, with an individual, patients or within group discussion
  • Impart knowledge at appropriate level for health promotion and multi-disciplinary working with clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Strong Presentation and training skills with experience in developing training, presentations or educational support.
  • Able to adapt to and manage unpredictable workloads and and multiple tasks with regular interruptions
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities and develop services and systems to meet changing needs
  • Experienced in working independently, unsupervised in different GP practices.
  • Work with a VDU for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work unsupervised as an individual or part of a team.
  • Able to concentrate frequently for prolonged periods and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Valid driving licence and use of vehicle for work
