Job overview
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated, well organised practitioner to work as an Exploitation Nurse within the Safeguarding Children Team. The post holder will support the Safeguarding Children Lead to drive forward the Exploitation agenda.
The role will offer a Black Country wide representation in each of the place exploitation, triage and panel meetings.
It is important that the candidate can demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. In addition, the post holder will need to work effectively and flexibly to respond appropriately to challenging circumstances and be able to work on their own initiative.

This is a full time post. (37.5 hours per week, 9 am-5 pm per day - secondment or fixed term contract for 12 months)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Efficient and effective use of resources
To be professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards of professional practice as set by the Nursing & Midwifery Council / others.
2. To take personal responsibility for actions and omissions and fully recognise personal accountability.
3. To complete, request and collate background health checks on referrals received by Exploitation Hubs in order to provide health information to contribute to decision making in regard to appropriate thresholds.
4. To participate and be an active member in Strategy Discussions or safeguarding meetings held within the Exploitation Hubs as capacity allows.
5. To access supervision and support as directed by Safeguarding Children Lead and in line with RWT Safeguarding Supervision process.
6. To be able to work effectively and efficiently as required within the Exploitation Hubs and RWT environment.
7. To practice within an ethical framework based upon respect for the well-being and safety of staff, patients and clients.
8. To receive regular one to one meetings with a Senior member of RWT Safeguarding Children Team and with Exploitation Leads for all 4 Black Country areas as required.
9. Promote a clean and safe environment for staff, patients and visitors by ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and protocols including health and safety, healthcare associated infection prevention, clinical governance, including risk management and critical incident reporting and root cause analysis.
10. Promote record keeping in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council, national legislation and local standards
11. Ensure that there is effective communication with the multi-professional Exploitation teams regarding safeguarding and escalating concerns appropriately.
12. To take appropriate actions when standards fall below expected levels via escalation to Safeguarding Children Lead.
13. To take responsibility for reporting incidents and near misses promptly and take effective action to minimise future risk.
14. Continually assess and monitor risk in own and others’ practice and challenge others about wider risk factors.
2. To enhance the patients experience
1. Draw on a diverse range of highly specialist knowledge in decision-making to determine evidence-based interventions.
2. Working in partnership with others, delegate and refer as appropriate to optimise health outcomes and resource use.
3. Use professional judgement in independently manage complex and unpredictable care events and serious exploitation cases and to capture any learning from these experiences to improve and inform services.
4. Co-ordinate professional interventions regarding exploitation, by advising and recording.
5. Within a multidisciplinary framework, develop a culture of Think Family.
6. Promote an environment where equality and diversity issues are respected.
7. Ensure that everyone within the sphere of exploitation is treated with dignity and humanity, understanding individual needs, showing compassion and sensitivity.
8. Provide advice to own services and other professions on exploitation, practice and service development, including escalation of concerns as required.
9. Plan opportunities to generate and apply new knowledge to own and others’ practice in structured ways which are capable of evaluation.
3.Team work
1. Demonstrate resilience and determined leadership in contexts that are unfamiliar, complex and unpredictable.

5. In partnership with all relevant stakeholders identify the need for change, proactively generate practice innovations and support the leads with new practice and service redesign solutions to better meet the needs of those at risk/experiencing exploitation.
6. Act as a visible role model, creating a supportive ethos to empower staff to contribute to the exploitation agenda.
7. Contribute to the appraisal process by ensuring that personal development plans are consistent with the organisation policy.
8. Take all reasonable care of health and safety at work for self, team and others and to co-operate with employers to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
4.1 To ensure effective contribution to the delivery of the organisation’s safeguarding objectives
1. Network with peers across professional groups and clinical disciplines both internally and externally to the Black Country areas, promoting the exchange of knowledge, skills and resources.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registration Nurse/Midwife/RHV/RSCN or other professional registration with direct experience of working clinically with children and families over 3 years
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Evidence of undertaking Level 3 Safeguarding Children course/training
Desirable criteria
- Degree level education
Experience/Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of; Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together 2018, Intercollegiate Document 2025
- Minimum 3 years working with children and families
- Working with a range of multi agency partners
- Understanding of working with complex families and challenging situations
- Understanding of Think Family principles and practice
- An understanding of the Exploitation Hub initiative
- Experience of advising on complex situations relating to children and/or vulnerable adults.
Desirable criteria

- Experience of Data input, collection, analysis, audit and evaluation
